Built for concrete

Financial Systems Built for Concrete Contractors

Ready-mix prices move, weather rewrites the schedule, and a pour that felt productive can still lose money by the time the crew is off site. We build the accounting and job costing that show you which work actually pays.

Where the margin actually goes

What we watch for concrete contractors

Yards poured versus crew hours

Productivity per pour is the number that decides your margin, and it almost never appears on a standard profit and loss. We track it at the job level so you can see which crews and which job types are genuinely efficient.

Ready-mix and material volatility

When material prices move mid-season, bids written in February quietly stop working by June. Costing coded as it happens surfaces the drift while you can still reprice.

Weather days and idle crews

Rain days are a real cost that rarely gets attributed anywhere. Booked properly, you can see what weather actually costs you in a season and plan reserves against it.

Retainage and slow pay

Money earned and money received are different dates. We track receivables aging so a profitable quarter does not turn into a cash squeeze.

The differentiator

Costing that survives a pour schedule

Concrete work is fast, weather-dependent and hard to reconstruct after the fact. That is exactly why costs have to be coded to the job as they happen rather than pieced together at month end — by then nobody remembers which load went where.

How we build job costing

Common leaks

What we usually find in the first 90 days

  • Change orders poured but never written up
  • Short loads and returned concrete absorbed into general materials
  • Pump and equipment time not charged back to the job
  • Labor burden left out of the bid, so every hour is underpriced
  • Retainage tracked in a spreadsheet, or not at all

None of these are unusual. They are what happens when the work grows faster than the systems underneath it.

The comparison nobody runs

Why not just hire someone?

Most contractors assume the alternative to outsourcing is one bookkeeper. It rarely is — the work spans accounting, payroll, AP/AR, compliance and advisory, and one hire covers a slice of it.

Hiring in-house

  • Recruit, train and manage a bookkeeper — roughly $60K a year before payroll taxes and benefits
  • Add someone for AP, AR and admin — roughly another $45K
  • Build the systems yourself: chart of accounts, job costing, approval flows
  • Absorb PTO, sick days and turnover
  • Lose the knowledge when they leave
  • Still be the one who has to know whether it is being done right

With SarokaFi

  • A full trained back-office team for a fraction of one salary
  • Systems already built and proven on construction companies
  • Accountability sits with us, not with you
  • Move up or down a tier without hiring or firing anyone
  • No PTO gaps, no turnover, no retraining
  • A CFO-level partner reading the numbers, not just recording them

The question isn’t whether you can afford us. It’s whether one hire actually solves the problem.

What our clients say

Running Refined before we had Scott and his team on board to help us out was almost like running blind. We had just had our biggest year, and the little ball we roll was getting too big for me to keep everything in my head — things were starting to slip a bit.

Now we can say with confidence that we know where we stand financially at almost any given time. If we have questions, it’s not hard to get them answered within a day or two.

When you don’t know for sure where you’re at financially, you tend to make poor decisions for your business. It’s not hard at all for me to justify the money we spend with SarokaFi. It’s been a life saver.

Grant Refined Concrete

I’m on my 4th year running my business. The first 2 years I did not have SarokaFi and was having serious cash flow and cash management problems.

The last 2 years Scott and his team have turned things around, and now I am starting to be profitable and cash flow is seamless. Very highly recommend.
